Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Live Well community health event is set to return to Covington this month. Live Well Northshore, a free cancer screening opportunity, will be held on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire Street. This event provides residents with an opportunity to take advantage of four different types of cancer screenings, including breast, prostate, colorectal, and skin cancer. Participants can also access blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose checks.
In partnership with local radio personality and entrepreneur Wayne “Wild Wayne” Benjamin, Jr., University Medical Center New Orleans (UMC) launched “Vital Signs,” a comprehensive mental wellness campaign that will run through Dec. 13. This campaign, designed to bring to light mental health issues affecting the New Orleans community will focus on topics such as stress, trauma, depression, generational trauma, grief management, and holiday stress, all of which are significant to our community.
Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) and Terrebonne General Health System used the Pounce™ Venous Thrombectomy System for the removal of venous clots in the legs. McCall Walker, MD, CIS interventional cardiologist, was the first to use this system in the cardiac cath lab at Terrebonne General.
Terrebonne General Health System announced that the Terrebonne General Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Clinic is a recipient of RestorixHealth’s highest achievement, the Wound Center of Excellence Award for the third consecutive year.
The Wound Center of Excellence Award distinguishes centers that have demonstrated exceptional success by meeting or exceeding clinical and operational benchmarks in several categories, including healing benchmarks and adherence to clinical practice pathways, along with a patient satisfaction rate of 96% or higher.
For the third year running, St. Tammany Health System has been named one of New Orleans CityBusiness’ Best Places to Work in the New Orleans metro area.
As in 2022 and 2023, the health system was recognized for 2024 in the largest of the three sized-based categories, reserved for organizations with 250 employees or more.
St. Tammany Health System, founded in 1954 as St. Tammany Parish Hospital, employs more than 3,000 people, making it the second-largest employer in St. Tammany Parish.
