Nurses at University Medical Center New Orleans (UMCNO) in Louisiana will hold a strike for three days from Nov.11-13 to protest LCMC Health’s refusal to address nurses’ concerns about staff retention in on-going first contract bargaining. Nurses at UMCNO are represented by National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United (NNOC/NNU) and have delivered their required advanced notice for their work stoppage.

UMCNO nurses say their hospital is being managed in ways that hurt the ability to retain experienced healthcare workers, including nurses.

Louisiana’s largest provider of aid for sexual assault survivors cut back on services this month as a result of not receiving funding before the federal government shutdown. 

Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response, or STAR, had to halt its hospital accompaniment program, where staff members support victims going through an evidence-gathering medical exam after a sexual assault.

The Ochsner Accountable Care Network (OACN) has been recognized for its performance in both healthcare quality and cost savings for Medicare patients.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its 2024 report on ACOs in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). Ochsner ranked No. 3 out of 476 ACOs nationwide for care coordination, based on patient surveys. It also placed in the top 11% for overall quality.

St. Tammany Health System celebrated some of the longest-tenured members of its workforce Oct. 23 at the organization’s 51st annual Service Awards Banquet, held at the Fleur de Lis Event Center in Mandeville.

The event featured individual honors for those colleagues who have served 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 45 years with the health system. Also honored were those nurses who earned the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nursing in 2025, as well as those colleagues singled out for the health system’s quarterly Ambassador Award over the course of the past year.
