ACCESS (Adapting and Changing Children’s Environments with Successful Solutions), a locally founded nonprofit fund of the Northshore Community Foundation that supports children with disabilities and their families, has announced that its 10th annual Boo Fest will be held on the grounds of Lakeview Regional Medical Center on Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.. Early admission begins at 9 a.m. for families of children with disabilities.
Research conducted by Suresh Alahari, PhD, Professor of Biochemistry and Genetics at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, has found that metformin, a commonly prescribed drug for Type 2 diabetes, may be effective in treating cancers that lack a protein called Nischarin. The designation verifies the hospital is equipped to handle critically injured patients, including those suffering organ injuries, traumatic brain injuries, multiple bone fractures, and gunshot wounds. The designation also reflects STPH’s trained trauma staff, constant access to trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedists, critical-care physicians, anesthesiologists, surgical services, and other specialists.
