LCMC Health announced that four of its hospitals have earned an “A” hospital safety grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national leader and advocate in hospital transparency. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.  

Hospitals that earned an “A” hospital safety grade from The Leapfrog Group include:

•    East Jefferson General Hospital

•    Lakeside Hospital

Xavier University of Louisiana (Xavier) has announced continued progress with Ochsner Health (Ochsner) to launch their Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM). This groundbreaking partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing medical education by addressing health disparities in diverse communities and helping fulfill the urgent need for more physicians in Louisiana and the nation. The new medical school will be in the burgeoning BioDistrict New Orleans, located downtown in Benson Tower next to Caesars Superdome.

St. Tammany Health System cut the ribbon on a new family medicine clinic in north Covington that, in addition to expanding access to medical care for local residents, will educate the region’s next generation of family medicine physicians as part of the health system’s first-in-the-region family medicine residency program.

Terrebonne General Health System, in partnership with the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and Southern Eye Bank, hosted a flag raising and butterfly release ceremony on April 23 during National Donate Life Month. This event honored those who have given the gift of life through organ, tissue, and eye donation. At the ceremony, attendees heard from speakers who were organ donors, organ recipients, and living organ donors. There were performances by the Vandebelles of Vandebilt Catholic High School and butterflies were released as a sign of new life.

On April 26, a ribbon cutting ceremony was hosted at St. Tammany Health System and Ochsner Health’s new family medicine clinic in North Covington that, in addition to expanding access to medical care for local residents, will serve as a medical education facility for a Family Medicine Residency Program.
