Lakeview Regional Medical Center, a campus of Tulane Medical Center, in collaboration with the Junior League of Greater Covington, will host their annual Girls’ Health Day on Jan. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Lakeview Regional campus.

Between 2012 and 2016, opioid-related overdose deaths in Louisiana more than doubled, and 2017, there were 89.5 opioid prescriptions for every 100 Louisiana residents, according to data in The Louisiana Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program Action Plan, released in October of 2019 by the Office of Behavioral Health.  

Opioid use disorder is a chronic relapsing condition, but one that can be effectively addressed by family physicians with medications such as buprenorphine.

St. Tammany Quality Network presented the 2019 fourth quarter Medical Director’s Award to Dr. John D’Hemecourt, Chris Connell, CRNA, and Sarah Delery, RN, for their involvement with participating in the development and implementation of the screening tool for high risk patients that go for elective hip and knee surgery.

St. Tammany Hospital Foundation’s Healing Arts Initiative will host the first solo exhibition of its rotating gallery series from Jan. 27 to March 20, featuring works by local artist Bernard Mattox.

The exhibit will include an opening reception on Feb. 4 at 4:30 p.m. on the first floor of St. Tammany Parish Hospital, 1202 S. Tyler St. in Covington.

Bernard Mattox is a mixed media artist with a prolific career spanning more than four decades. Born in New Orleans, he has lived on the Northshore for more 30 years.

St. Tammany Health System announced the first baby born at the hospital in 2020, Lucy James Marchetta, weighing 6 lb., 14 oz., and measuring 18 inches long. Proud parents Courtney and Erick Marchetta of Slidell, obstetrician Nancy Thomas, MD, labor and delivery nurses Candace Davis, RN, and Kelsey St. Arnaud, RN, welcomed the baby girl into the world at 6:58 a.m. on Jan. 1.
