West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC) announces the appointment of James Callaghan, MD, as chief medical officer. Callaghan has been an integral part of WJMC since 1994. His extensive expertise in emergency medicine, a field in which he has been board-certified since 1995, has been pivotal in providing critical care at the medical center.
Callaghan began his journey with WJMC as an Emergency Department staff physician and has since held several key positions, including member at large, vice chief of staff, and chief of staff.
Callaghan's academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Master of Science from the University of New Orleans. He earned an MD from LSU Medical School in New Orleans and completed an emergency medicine residency at LSU New Orleans/Charity Hospital in 1994.
Callaghan is an active member of prestigious medical organizations such as the Louisiana State Medical Society, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the Jefferson Parish Medical Society.
