Lakeview Hospital, in collaboration with the Junior League of Greater Covington, will host the 20th annual Girls Health Day on April 13 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on the Lakeview Hospital campus. The event is designed for girls from eight to 14 and their mothers or guardians.
Keynote speaker Kati Morse LeBreton will address social media and the digital age.
"Adolescence is a challenging time in any girl’s life, and mental health and social media are two of the biggest issues facing them today,'” said Heather Rietschel, MCD, CCC/SLO Lakeview rehab supervisor. “The goal of our Girls Health Day is to provide mothers and guardians with the tools they need to help their daughters navigate the experiences of today’s world in a safe and productive manner.”
LeBreton is "the redhead" behind The Redhead Method Social Media Education. With 10+ years of social media experience and a unique flair for storytelling, Kati educates people of all ages and stages on developing positive digital habits and building healthy relationships with their devices. The Redhead Method is for anyone with the internet, covering topics like mental health and brain development, online safety and cyberbullying, romantic and family relationships, conflict resolution, and more. Participants will laugh, learn, and gain the tools they need to confidently navigate the ever-changing digital space.
This year’s fair aims to educate girls and mothers or guardians on topics related to health and social issues, with talks and demonstrations on internet safety, the hazards of vaping and tobacco use, safe dating, social media education, mental illness, puberty and changes to expect, sexual health, and healthy eating, along with ongoing fitness demonstrations. The theme “Be Healthy. Be Happy. Be You.” inspires girls to promote healthy, positive behaviors.
Participants can take advantage of free health screenings, including vision and scoliosis screenings, BMI measurements, and dental hygiene. The girls can also be a “Doctor for the Day” by experiencing a simulated surgery activity using the Da Vinci Robot. Door prizes and giveaways will be available to all attendees.
