University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical School Announces 2019 Residency Match Day Results

The University of Queensland (UQ) Ochsner Clinical School graduating class of 2018 celebrated 2019 Match Day with a 93% Match Rate through the National Residency Match Program – a rite of passage in which medical school students from around the globe learn who has been selected or matched to a U.S. residency program for the next chapter of medical training.

“Match Day is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Our Match Rate is a testament to the high quality of our students, our faculty and staff and our program, which is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year,” said Leonardo Seoane, MD, chief academic officer, Ochsner Health System. “We are proud to offer a graduate medical program that spans two continents and provides students with a unique and global perspective as they train to be medical professionals. As we reflect on the last 10 years, it’s incredibly rewarding that our overall Match Rate throughout the history of the program is comparable with the average for other U.S. medical schools.”

This year, 85 students from UQ Ochsner Clinical School’s class of 2018, which graduated in December of 2018, participated in the National Residency Match Program. -100% of positions offered to students from across the globe participating in this year’s match

“The White Coat Ceremony, Graduation, and Match Day are three important days in the life of an aspiring physician. We are proud of the success our students have had year over year, matching with high caliber residency programs both here in Louisiana and across the country. Additionally, we are excited that all of the positions offered by our Graduate Medical Education Office were filled in this year’s match without having to go through the supplemental match process,” said Ronald Amedee, MD, head of school and dean of medical education, Ochsner Health System.

“Education has always been a cornerstone of Ochsner Health System and we are truly honored that so many of our students will remain not only in Louisiana, but here at Ochsner for the next step of their medical training,” said G. Dodd Denton, MD, deputy head of student affairs, Ochsner Health System.
