Sharron's dream was to marry her fiancé, Norman, on her 75th birthday. However, as a cancer patient at University Medical Center New Orleans (UMC), she faced the reality of being hospitalized on her special day. Determined to make her dream come true, the team at UMC organized a heartfelt wedding celebration right at the hospital.
On May 30, Sharron and Norman exchanged vows in a private ceremony in the hospital chapel. The event was followed by a New Orleans-style reception, bringing together family, friends, and care team members to celebrate the couple's love and resilience. Following the reception, the couple was surprised with a Commander's Palace experience in Sharon's room.
The newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Heyd, embraced a second chance at love, surrounded by an outpouring of support and joy from their loved ones and the compassionate hospital staff. Their wedding not only marked Sharon's 75th birthday but also symbolized hope, inspiration, and power of community during challenging times.
