St. Tammany Quality Network (STQN) presented Medical Director Awards to Roy Saguiguit, MD, and Robert Capitelli, MD, for the 2018 second quarter. Saguiguit was recognized for his outstanding efforts in managing patients with CHF, COPD, hypertension, and diabetes. Capitelli received an honorary Medical Director’s Award upon his retirement for guidance launching STQN and his leadership on the board of managers.

Hill, MD, STQN medical director. “Dr. Saguiguit has been consistent in his exemplary care of patients with chronic medical conditions and is proactive about the health and well-being of his patients. Dr. Capitelli has been a personal mentor to so many of the physicians and staff at St. Tammany Parish Hospital myself included. His contribution to improving healthcare in St. Tammany Parish cannot be understated.”
Saguiguit earned a medical degree from Medical College of Georgia and completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Health Center. He has been an active member of the St. Tammany Parish Hospital medical staff since 1995. He is a member of the STQN Finance and Contracting Committee and the St. Tammany Hospital Accountable Care Organization Board of Managers.
Capitelli received a medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in 1975. After initial surgical training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he moved to Baltimore, where he completed an otolaryngology and head and neck surgery residency at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, Md. Capitelli returned to Covington in 1983 where he had a successful 22-year career as an otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon.
In 1987, Capitelli was named the first medical director at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. In 2006, Capitelli retired from the practice of medicine to become the full-time senior vice president/chief medical officer.
