Volunteers with St. Tammany Health System and the Healthier Northshore coalition showed off their green thumbs March 22 by planting a community garden at Magnolia Park in Folsom.
Benefitting from clear springtime weather, volunteers gloved up to plant dozens of tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, herbs, and other South Louisiana garden staples.
The community garden project is designed to promote healthy eating as part of Healthier Northshore’s overall mission to improve population health metrics throughout South Louisiana. The Folsom planting is the second local community garden established by Healthier Northshore, joining a previously planted plot on the Safe Haven campus in Mandeville.
