New Orleans Saints cornerback, #23 Marshon Lattimore, will join Dr. Joey Lacoste, president of Louisiana Dental Center and 1980 graduate of the LSUHSC School of Dentistry, to present a check to his alma mater for the Big Turnover Program on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. The event takes place at the LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry, 1100 Florida Avenue, Administration Building, Auditorium B.
Louisiana Dental Center, a private group dental practice, unites a commitment to support the LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry with its enthusiasm for New Orleans Saints football by pledging to donate, or turn over, a set amount for every takeaway the Saints’ defense creates. Louisiana Dental Center will present a donation of $10,000 to Dr. Henry Gremillion, dean of LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry. The gift will support the Summer Enrichment Program and the Orofacial Pain Initiative at the School.
Begun in 2007, the LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Summer Enrichment Program for underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students just completed its 14th year.
The two-week program introduces students to the dental profession, the dental school application process, and the demands of dental school. There were seven participants in the 2019 Summer Enrichment Program organized by Drs. Stephanie Noe and Stephen Brisco. Two of the participants are currently enrolled in the dental lab technician program. Since the inception of the Summer Enrichment Program, 119 students have participated. Sixty-three former participants are either enrolled in or have been accepted into dental school; thirty-seven of these students either enrolled in or have been accepted by LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry.
LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry is the only dental school in the State of Louisiana, and about 75% of the dental professionals practicing in Louisiana are its graduates. Many of the Louisiana Dental Center dentists are alumni.
