Ochsner Cardiologist Recognized with 2019 ATLAS Award

The director of the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute (JOHVI), Christopher J. White, MD, MACC, MSCAI, FAHA, FESC, FACP, has been recognized by Vascular Interventional Advances Physicians (VIVA) with the 2019 ATLAS award for his impact as a scholar and leader in the vascular field.

VIVA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the field of vascular medicine and intervention through education and research. Each year, VIVA recognizes one physician with the ATLAS award, which stand for A Teacher, Leader, And Scholar. This career award celebrates a physician who committed their career to advancing the care of patients with vascular disorders, while also fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals. White was recognized with this honor during the annual VIVA meeting earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nev.

With more than four decades of experience, White has practiced medicine in San Francisco, Calif; Washington, D.C.; Glasgow, Scotland; and New Orleans, La. In addition to his role with JOHVI, White currently serves as the medical director of Value Based Care and System Chairman for cardiovascular disease for Ochsner Health System and is professor and chairman of medicine and cardiology for the University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical School.

White is a past president of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and a past steering committee chairman for the National Cardiovascular Database Registry’s (NCDR) carotid and peripheral revascularization efforts. He serves as editor for Progress in Cardiovascular Disease, associate editor for JACC Interventions, and previously served as editor-in-chief for Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions.

White graduated Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society from Case Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio and completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at Letterman Army Medical Center (LAMC) in San Francisco, Calif.
