Sponsorship opportunities and event tickets are now available for the annual Pirate Party, set for Jan. 13 at the Columbia Street Tap Room in Covington. This event is hosted by Jack E. Saux, III, MD, medical oncologist, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and affectionately known as “The Pirate Oncologist.” Every year, this event raises awareness of local nonprofit organizations that support those impacted by cancer while celebrating great costuming, fun, and important causes. Funds raised at this year’s event will be used to support Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington and patients on the Northshore.
Event attendees will enjoy food provided by local restaurants, including The Tap Room and Gallagher’s. There will be an open bar and wine from Artisan Fine Wines. Live music will be provided by local cover band, Lost in the Sixties. Attendees can also participate in a live and silent auction featuring local art, unique experiences, and an extensive array of goods and services provided by local businesses.
Community members can take advantage of early bird general admission pricing through Dec. 15.
“Aside from a roaring good time, this event gives us a great opportunity to support the life-saving work conducted at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center,” said Saux. “Thanks to the generosity of this community, we’ve raised thousands of dollars to support patients right here on the Northshore. As much as we’ve accomplished, we know that there is so much more work to do. So, come out and join us on Jan. 13!”
This event benefits cancer patients, survivors, and their families. Last year, the annual Pirate Party raised $29,000 for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington. These funds supported patient assistance programs and helped remove barriers to care for patients across Covington and the Northshore region.
This year’s celebration is especially meaningful as Saux has been navigating his own cancer journey. In June, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Despite this battle, Saux has continued to see patients.
“Over the past few months, I have been overwhelmed with how much support I have received since I first announced my cancer diagnosis,” said Saux. “This community means so much to me and my family. Time and time again, members of this community come out and support their neighbors. Here, on the Northshore, no one fighting cancer is forced to battle alone.”
