Patrick Barousse, MD, MPH, and Vince Lands, MD, and Certified Family Nurse Practitioner Rae Pitcher, have joined North Oaks Orthopaedic Specialty Center.
Barousse is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle issues. He comes to North Oaks after recently completing a foot and ankle fellowship through the University of California at Davis.
Dawn Pennebaker, MD, OB/GYN, with The Woman’s Clinic of Monroe, La., has been awarded the OB/GYN Physician Summit Award from Louisiana Healthcare Connections for demonstrating a commitment to “high quality, accessible care.”
The award is given annually to the OB/GYN provider that achieves the highest scores in key quality measures related to women’s health across the health plan’s provider network.
The Louisiana Department of Health held a three-day Opioid Action Summit that brought together hundreds of healthcare providers, subject matter experts, and addiction treatment providers who are dedicated to addressing the opioid epidemic.
The summit included more than two dozen panels, breakout sessions, and discussions surrounding addiction and recovery, all focused on responding to the opioid crisis that is costing the state hundreds of lives and millions of dollars each year.

Nearly 50 years after performing the first heart transplant in the Gulf South, Ochsner Health System has successfully completed its 1,000th heart transplant. With the completion of the 1,000th heart transplant, Ochsner joins the ranks of 13 other prestigious health care systems across the United States to have reached this milestone – Cleveland Clinic, Duke University, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and University of Pennsylvania, to name a few.
