A diagnostic study of 136 premature infants found that a protein involved in managing harmful bacteria in the human intestine is a reliable biomarker for the noninvasive detection of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Led by researchers and clinicians at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, this is one of the largest prospective clinical studies in premature infants yet.

The Blood Center and St. Tammany Parish Hospital (STPH) introduced Thank The Donor, allowing patients to thank their blood donor.

ThankTheDonor.org connects patients confidentially with their blood donor. The technology allows patients to send a note, photo, or video to their donor using a smartphone, tablet, or computer. The program breaks the communication barriers with a new and different way to share a “thank you” while protecting the anonymity of both the donor and patient.

Louisiana physicians have the opportunity to become buprenorphine-waivered to treat Opioid-Use Disorder (OUD) through a free, online educational course offered on Nov. 8, 2019, by Louisiana Healthcare Connections. The course, conducted by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), supports Louisiana Healthcare Connections’ efforts to increase the state’s number of buprenorphine-waivered clinicians.
