Louisiana will leverage an anticipated $1 billion in federal funding for rural health care over the next five years by expanding existing training programs and creating new financial incentives for medical professionals to work in rural communities.

The second largest provider of Medicaid coverage in Louisiana will extend its plan for approximately 330,000 enrollees until March 31, but not after that date.  

UnitedHealthcare won’t stay in the state Medicaid program beyond the end of a 90-day contract extension it agreed to Thursday, according to company spokeswoman Christina Witz.

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is announcing that Louisiana will receive over $208 million through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), established under President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts legislation. Louisiana’s award amount is among the highest in the Nation, and among the top three in the Southeast.

Manning Family Children’s announced the appointment of David C. Yu, MD, as the hospital’s new senior vice president and chief medical officer, beginning Feb. 1, 2026. Yu currently serves as Manning Family Children’s associate chief medical officer for the surgery division.

With an estimated one in three American adults living with prediabetes, St. Tammany Health System’s Diabetes Education Department has announced a new initiative aimed at helping patients reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

The PreventT2 program, as it is called, is designed for adults who have been diagnosed with prediabetes or who are at increased risk for developing the condition. PreventT2 focuses on sustainable lifestyle changes shown to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes.
