He is working with the orthopedic group specializing in hand surgery, where he will treat various conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and elbow. Wax graduated summa cum laude with a bach- elor’s degree in kinesiology, human movement science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He received a medical degree and com- pleted an orthopaedic surgery residency at Louisi- ana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans. He then completed a hand fellowship at the University of Miami, Department of Ortho- paedic Surgery, affiliated with Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for general orthopedic surgery and subspecialty in hand surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Ortho- paedic Surgeons, the Louisiana Orthopedic Asso- ciation, and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Terrebonne General Health SystemAnnounces Cory Leonard as VP, Financial Services Terrebonne General Health System has pro- moted Cory Leonard to vice president of finan- cial services. In his new role, Leonard, a certified public accountant, will oversee financial opera- tions across the health system. Leonard previously served as assistant vice president of finance. Leon- ard’s nearly 30 years of prior experience include serving as physician practice finance director, general accounting and centralized billing office manager at Terrebonne General Health System, as well as director of business services at Cardio- vascular Institute of the South. Leonard earned a bachelor’s degree in account- ing from Nicholls State University. He is certified as a medical practice executive by the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Ochsner NamedWDA Center of Excellence Ochsner Health has earned the designation of Center of Excellence from the Wilson Disease Association (WDA). Under the leadership of hep- atologists Ryan Himes, MD, Hrishikesh Samant, MD, and Steven Young, MD, this recognition underscores Ochsner’s commitment to provid- ing specialized care and advanced treatment for patients with Wilson disease, a rare and complex liver condition. Wilson disease is an inherited disorder affecting approximately one in 30,000 people, in which the body retains excess copper, leading to potentially fatal complications in the liver, brain, and other organs if left untreated. WDA Centers of Excellence are specialized facil- ities dedicated to the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of Wil- son disease. To achieve this designation, centers must meet rigorous criteria, including a demon- strated commitment to patient care, advanced diagnostic capabilities, physician education, and research into copper metabolism disorders. These centers also serve as vital educational resources for patients, families, and healthcare providers. Terrebonne General, CIS Celebrate 1,000th TAVR Procedure Terrebonne General Health System and the Car- diovascular Institute of the South (CIS) announced the successful completion of its 1,000th transcath- eter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure. The TAVR program, launched in 2012, offers patients with severe aortic stenosis a life-saving, less invasive alternative to open-heart surgery. “It has been an honor to participate in and watch the evolution of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) over the past 13 years,” said Peter Fail, MD, interventional cardiologist at CIS in Houma and director of the structural heart pro- gram at CIS. n Cory Leonard Barton Wax, MD Terrebonne General Health System and the Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) celebrated the successful completion of its 1,000th transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure.
