HEALTHCARE JOURNAL OF NEW ORLEANS I  NOV / DEC 2025 47 Josh Lowentritt, MD President-Elect Medical Association of Southeast Louisiana “Our physician members feel strong- ly that it’s much better to prevent disease with vaccination than risk the conse- quences; this is especially important for pregnant women, parents of young chil- dren, and caregivers of vulnerable adults,” said William Daly, MD, an anesthesiologist and MASELA president. Initial funding for the initiative has come from the Greater New Orleans Med- ical Foundation and the Jefferson Physi- cians Foundation, with continued support expected from community fundraising and outreach to philanthropic and indus- try partners. Beyond digital campaigning, the soci- eties are also preparing to release clin- ic-ready flyers, posters, and print mate- rials to extend the initiative’s reach into waiting rooms and community centers. Future plans include launching a podcast — The Medical Mic(rophone) — which will highlight local medical advocacy efforts and explore timely public health topics through conversations with local clini- cians and public health officials. In a state where legislative efforts are increasingly placing politics over patients, MASELA and its partners are choosing a different path, one grounded in evidence, collaboration, and a belief in the power of local physicians to lead. Their work is not only a testament to the enduring relevance of medical societies but also a rallying cry for physician engagement in public dis- course. As national voices grow quieter, local physicians are raising theirs. n
