STHS Receives $500K for Mobile Lung Cancer Screening Unit The Rich Mauti Cancer Fund, DBA Mauti Can- cer Fund, presented a $500,000 donation to St. Tammany Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of St. Tammany Health System, for the pur- chase of a leading-edge mobile lung screening unit for use across the Northshore. The new screening vehicle will be outfitted with an artificial-intelligence-powered CT unit for low- dose lung cancer screening. The AI-powered unit will also offer a multi-organ approach that addi- tionally addresses coronary calcium in the heart, aorta measurements, and bone density in the vertebra. It will join the health system’s Be Well Bus, which since 2021, has been bringing breast cancer screenings, skin cancer screenings, and other such health assessments directly into the community. “It is simple: Screenings save lives,” St. Tam- many Health System president and CEO Joan Coffman said. “In just the past three years alone, we have had 14 early breast cancer catches on the Be Well Bus. The expansion of our mobile screening program stands to be just as impactful, if not more so. On behalf of St. Tammany Health System and the Northshore community, I want to personally thank Rich Mauti and the Mauti Can- cer Fund for what is truly a lifesaving gift to the community.” Bloomberg Philanthropies Makes Founding Gift to Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine Bloomberg Philanthropies announced a gift of $5 million in seed funding to support the cre- ation of the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM), a newly established medical school in New Orleans founded by Xavier University of Lou- isiana and Ochsner Health. Earlier this year, Xavier University of Louisiana, a historically Black college and university (HBCU), and Ochsner Health announced their partnership to establish Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM) to address health disparities in diverse communities and helping fulfill the urgent need for more Black and Brown physicians in Louisiana and the nation. The new medical school will be located in Ben- son Tower next to Caesars Superdome, in the Bio- District of downtown New Orleans, and will be the first HBCU medical school in the Gulf South. Bloomberg Philanthropies’ investment in XOCOM’s planning is part of its Greenwood Ini- tiative – an effort that seeks to advance racial wealth equity by addressing systemic underin- vestment in Black institutions and communities. “As the only HBCU medical school in the Gulf South, Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine will train physicians who reflect the diversity of the communities they serve and help address a crit- ical healthcare shortage in the region,” said Reynold Verret, PhD, president Xavier Univer- sity of Louisiana. “We are profoundly grateful to Mike Bloomberg and Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative for their bold vision and tre- mendous support which will accelerate our mis- sion to create a healthier, more equitable, more just future for the Gulf South and for the nation.” Thibodaux Regional Welcomes BrittanyWyger, MD, toWeight Management Center Thibodaux Regional Health System announced the addition of Brittany Wyger, MD, FAAFP, ABOM, obesity/weight management specialist, to the active medical staff.
