52 MAY / JUN 2024 I  HEALTHCARE JOURNAL OF NEW ORLEANS MEDICAL SOCIETY COLUMN MEDICAL SOCIETY ON Friday, March 8, more than 150 phy- sicians and guests gathered at Metairie Country Club to attend the Second Annual Celebration of Medicine hosted by Jeffer- son and Orleans Parish Medical Societies and the Medical Association of Southeast Louisiana (MASELA). The event celebrated accomplishments, toasted leadership, and honored milestones in medicine. Toasting leadership of 2023 and 2024 and passing the gavel of the presidencies of JPMS, OPMS, andMASELAwere conducted. The organizations’boards and incoming and outgoing presidents were recognized, and the outgoing presidents were presented with crystal awards for their dedicated service and outstanding leadership. Recognizing milestones in medicine was a wonderful part of the evening of celebra- tions. Physicians graduating fifty years ago from LSU and Tulane schools of medicine were honored. The culmination of the evening was the presentation of MASELA’s annual awards to six deserving physicians for their achieve- ments in medicine. MASELA presented awards to: • Robert Post, MD — Public Health Lead- ership Award. • Andrea Espinoza, MD — Physician Well-Being Award. • Raoul Rodriguez, MD — Medical Role Model Award. • AndrewMayer, MD — Patient & Physi- cian Advocate Award. • Richard Dickey, MD — Lifetime Achievement in Medicine Award, pre- sented posthumously. • George Ellis, Jr., MD — Distinguished Service to Organized MedicineAward. Each recipient was applauded by their family and friends and everyone who gath- ered to celebrate them. They have left an indelible mark on medicine, their patients, their communities, and our organizations. JPMS, OPMS, and MASELA are an inte- gral part of the Southeast Louisiana medical community. We have designated physician well-being and honoring the valued accom- plishments of physicians as a high priority. The Celebration of Medicine was another stunning success and is a significant initia- tive toward this aim.
