Terrebonne General Health SystemWelcomes Four New Physician Specialists Terrebonne General Health System welcomes four new physician specialists. Peomia Chela Brown, MD, Emma Fleckman, MD, Tania Kohal, MD, and Logan St. Cyr, MD, will join the medi- cal staff. Brown, a pulmonologist, critical care, and sleep medicine specialist, earned a Bachelor of Science from Clemson University and a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina Col- lege of Medicine. She completed an internal med- icine residency at the Medical College of Geor- gia at Augusta University Medical Center, where she served as chief medical resident. Brown com- pleted fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Louisiana State University in New Orleans and sleep medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Brown is double board-certified in internal med- icine and pulmonary medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is board-eligible in critical care and sleep medicine. She is a mem- ber of the American Thoracic Society, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and The American Society of Chest Physicians. Fleckman, a hospital medicine specialist, grad- uated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Tulane University. She completed a medical degree at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medi- cine in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She completed an internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation – South Pointe Hospital, where she served as co-chief resident. Fleckman is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the American College of Osteopathic Internists, and the American Osteopathic Associ- ation. She is board-eligible in internal medicine. Fleckman will join the Terrebonne General Hospi- tal Medicine team to care for inpatients. Kohal, a pulmonary and critical care special- ist, attended the University of California in Berke- ley for a Bachelor of Arts. She earned a medical degree from Oakland University William Beau- mont School of Medicine and did a residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She completed pulmonary and critical care fellowships at Loui- siana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Kohal is double board-certified in internal med- icine and pulmonary medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Kohal received the resident teaching awards and ICU Resident of the Month. She is a member of The American Tho- racic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians. St. Cyr, a palliative/supportive care special- ist, graduated summa cum laude with a Bache- lor of Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She completed a medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was awarded the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. She finished an internal medicine residency at Louisi- ana State University Health and Sciences Center in Baton Rouge, where she was a resident inductee into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. St. Cyr is board-certified in internal medicine and board-eligible in palliative care. She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the Catholic Medical Association. St. Cyr will join the new Terrebonne General Pal- liative Care Clinic to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Thibodaux Regional Health SystemWelcomes Hadi Elias, MD Thibodaux Regional Health System announced the addition of Hadi Elias, MD, interventional car- diologist, to the active medical staff. Elias is avail- able to care for patients at Thibodaux Regional Cardiology Clinic located at 602 North Acadia Road, Suite 101, Thibodaux. Elias earned a bachelor’s degree in science from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and a master’s degree in biotechnology from George- town University in Washington, D.C. He received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Ross Univer- sity School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica, and completed an internal medicine residency at Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. Additionally, Elias completed a fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Ameri- can College of Physicians, and the American Col- lege of Cardiology. Ochsner MDAnderson Using CARTCell Therapy to Treat Cancer in Adults Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center at The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center in New Orleans is the first institution in Louisiana to treat adult patients using CAR T cell therapy, a revolu- tionary treatment for certain types of blood can- cers, according to an Ochsner spokesperson. A New Orleans patient received CAR T cell ther- apy in June, with a complete response and no evidence of cancer in late July, putting them in full remission. The patient is being treated under the guidance of Clark Alsfeld, MD, hematologist/ oncologist and cellular therapy specialist at Och- sner MD Anderson. CAR T cell therapy, also known as Chimeric Anti- gen Receptor T cell therapy, is an innovative, per- sonalized form of immunotherapy treatment that harnesses the patient's immune system to target and destroy cancer cells. Thibodaux Regional Health SystemWelcomes Elizabeth Ansert, MD Thibodaux Regional Health System announced the addition of Elizabeth Ansert, MD, foot and ankle specialist, to the active medical staff.
