Newsweek : St. Tammany Parish Hospital Named One of Best Cancer Hospitals St. Tammany Health System’s flagship St. Tam- many Parish Hospital has been named to News- week’s inaugural listing of America’s Best Cancer Hospitals. It is the highest-ranking Louisiana hos- pital on the list. Tulane University, Ochsner Health, and RH Impact Receive $16.5MNIHGrant Tulane University, Ochsner Health and the com- munity nonprofit RH Impact have been awarded a seven-year, $16.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to establish a research cen- ter of excellence focused on finding solutions to address Louisiana’s disproportionately high mater- nal mortality rate. The new Southern Center for Maternal Health Equity will be one of 10 newly announced Mater- nal Health Research Centers of Excellence nation- wide funded by the NIH’s Implementing a Mater- nal health and PRegnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone (IMPROVE) initiative. The center will develop and evaluate innovative approaches to reduce pregnancy-related compli- cations and deaths and promote maternal health equity in the Gulf South. Additional collaborators include Dillard University and the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Louisiana has one of the highest maternal mor- tality rates in the country with 39 out of every 100,000 mothers dying during or shortly after childbirth. In Louisiana, Black pregnant and post- partum people are three to four times more likely to die from complications related to pregnancy compared to their White counterparts, accord- ing to CDC data. Children’s Hospital New Orleans Celebrates Halfway Mark in Fundraising, Design forWalker’s Imaginarium On Sept. 30, friends, supporters, donors, hospi- tal staff, and patient families gathered to celebrate Walker’s Imaginarium – a “halfway there” celebra- tion marking the fundraising and project planning progress for the first-of-its-kind child enrichment center that will be located at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. One year into fundraising efforts, the dream of Walker’s Imaginarium is much closer to becom- ing a reality – with nearly $8 million secured in commitments and the next phases of project plan- ning now underway, including exhibit and archi- tectural design. St. Bernard Parish Hospital Receives LAMMICO's Patient Safety Award, Grant St. Bernard Parish Hospital in Chalmette is the recipient of the 8th Annual LAMMICO Patient Safety Award and Grant. The 2022-2023 Patient Safety Award and Grant centered on the prevention of central line-associ- ated bloodstream infections (CLABSI). Healthcare providers had been making strides in reducing infections associated with central lines; however, in the third quarter of 2020, the CDC reported a 53% increase in the number of CLABSI, com- pared to the same group of hospitals in 2019. Of all the hospital-associated infections, the CLABSI rate increased the most.
