Ochsner Health Honored for Commitment to Quality by the American Hospital Association The American Hospital Association (AHA) hon- ored four hospitals and health systems for their leadership and improvement in quality and safety. Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans (OMC) was named a finalist for the AHA Quest for Qual- ity Prize that recognizes healthcare leadership and innovation in improving quality and advanc- ing health in communities. LCMCHealth Hospitals Achieve EMRAMStage 7 LCMC Health announced that two of its hospi- tals – University Medical Center New Orleans and Children’s Hospital New Orleans – have achieved Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medi- cal Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). This is the highest validation from HIMSS Analytics, a lead- ing global healthcare IT consulting organization. LCMC Health and its hospitals will be recog- nized at the 2023 HIMSS Global Health Confer- ence & Exhibition in April 2023 in Chicago. Children’s Hospital New Orleans Earns ELSOAward Children’s Hospital New Orleans was awarded the Gold Level ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization. The award is valid for a three-year period. The ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support signifies to patients and families a com- mitment to exceptional patient care, and demon- strates to the healthcare community an assurance of high-quality standards, specialized equipment and supplies, defined patient protocols, and advanced education of all staff members. Ochsner HealthMedical School Scholarship is Awarded The fourth annual Ochsner Health Medi- cal School Scholarship for LSU Health Shreve- port – School of Medicine has been awarded to recent Xavier University of Louisiana gradu- ate Aaron Jackson. The scholarship award covers the cost of tuition for Aaron to attend LSU Health Shreveport – School of Medicine over the four- year enrollment. “Ochsner Health is driven by our mission to ‘Serve, Heal, Lead, Educate and Innovate’ with a commitment to a health state for all by training the next generation of physicians,” said Leonardo Seoane, MD, FACP, chief academic officer, Och- sner Health and associate vice chancellor of aca- demic affairs, LSU Health Shreveport. “Through outstanding academic accomplishments and demonstrated resilience, Aaron has demonstrated the attributes needed to be impactful as a phy- sician. He is committed to improving health out- comes for our communities by focusing on health equity.” Jackson, a first-generation college graduate, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier. Outside of the classroom, he worked to put him- self through college and engaged in work-study programs, internships, and scientific research. He aims to show young people of color that attend- ing medical school is possible, even in the face of adversity, and to open new doors to young aspir- ing healthcare professionals by providing them with shadowing, volunteering, and research opportunities. “I knew early on in life that I wanted to care for and treat those affected by mental illnesses, hav- ing firsthand witnessed my brother’s struggles with his combination of intellectual and impulsive dis- orders,” he said in his application letter. “I also knew, however, that the road to becoming a phy- sician would not be an easy endeavor, especially for someone like me and with my disadvantaged background.” To qualify for consideration for this scholar- ship, a student is required to be a Louisiana res- ident, an Xavier student, and have already been accepted into the LSU Health Shreveport – School of Medicine. “LSU Health Shreveport is grateful to Ochsner for their continued awarding of a full tuition schol- arship to a deserving student who faced disadvan- tage, and we look forward to welcoming Aaron on campus in the fall,” said David Lewis, MD, interim chancellor and dean of the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine. “This scholarship is an impor- tant tool in enhancing LSU Health Shreveport’s’ ability to recruit and retain top minority students.” Touro Unveils New Mobile Nursing Nest In honor of National Breastfeeding Month, and to celebrates Touro’s milestone anniversary of 100 years of delivering babies, the Touro unveiled a mobile Nursing Nest, a traveling unit that provides a safe environment for moms to nurse and care for babies at public outdoor spaces in the New Orleans area. The mobile Nursing Nest features private, air- conditioned space with comfortable, clean seat- ing for moms, electrical outlets to accommodate breast pumps, baby changing station equipped with supplies, hand hygiene and hydration sta- tions, and maternal and child health education materials and resources. St. Bernard Parish Hospital Names NewChief Executive Officer St. Bernard Parish Hospital (SBPH) has named Alanna “Lani” Fast as its new chief executive offi- cer. Fast has served on the SBPH executive team as associate administrator since 2018, providing oversight and leadership for the hospital and clinic locations serving St. Bernard and surround- ing communities. Fast succeeds Kim Keene, who served as CEO of SBPH for the past six years and announced her retirement in May. Fast has 17 years of experience in healthcare and has worked at Ochsner Health since 2010. Prior to joining the leadership team at SBPH, Fast worked closely with local CEOs on Ochsner’s part- nership and integration of both St. Bernard Parish Hospital and Ochsner Medical Center – Hancock. As assistant vice president of clinic operations for Ochsner – Northshore and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Region, she supported system operations in Slidell, Pearl River, Chalmette, Covington, Bay St. Louis, and Diamondhead, Mississippi. Terrebonne General Offers Child Car Seat Fitting Station Terrebonne General Health System will offer a free child car seat fitting station for the com- munity. Terrebonne General, along with Louisi- ana State Police and Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force, will offer free checks every first and third Wednesday of the month at the Terrebonne General Women’s Health Center Entrance from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
