St. Tammany Health SystemEarns 10th Consecutive ‘A’ for Safety For the 10th grading period in a row, St. Tam- many Health System has received an A for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, an independent healthcare watchdog organization. STHS is one of only 29 hospitals nationally to have achieved an A in every grading period – which occur every fall and spring – since the incep- tion of the program in 2012, a STHS spokesper- son said. Richard Tanzella Named CEO of East Jefferson General Hospital LCMC Health announced the selection of Rich- ard Tanzella as the new CEO of East Jefferson General Hospital. Tanzella assumed his role on Feb. 1, 2021. He leads a staff of nearly 3,000 and manages a $100 million capital transformation. “All of us at LCMC Health welcome Richard’s leadership at a hospital that for 50 years has been a vital asset to our community,” said Greg Feirn, CEO of LCMC Health. “I am confident Richard will help East Jefferson General Hospital continue its commitment to our mission of delivering extraor- dinary healthcare.” Tanzella has more than 25 years of healthcare experience, most recently with Piedmont Health- care, Inc., a $4B integrated healthcare system in Atlanta, Ga. that includes 11 acute care hospitals with more than 2,500 beds, the Piedmont Heart Institute, Piedmont Transplant Institute, Piedmont Physicians Group, and the Piedmont Clinic. “I am excited to join East Jefferson General Hos- pital during this significant transition to the LCMC Health family,” Tanzella said. “This hospital holds a special place in the community it serves and being in a position to lead the team in its cultural trans- formation during this historic time in healthcare is an opportunity I welcome.” Since 2017, he served as chief executive officer of Piedmont Rockdale Hospital. During his tenure, he directed the transaction and transition of the first for-profit hospital into the Piedmont Health- care system. He also led the financial and cultural transformation of Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, focusing on quality, safety, and service with a focus on accountability and team/talent building. Prior to that, he served from 2009-2017 as chief opera- tions officer of the Piedmont Physician Enterprise, which included more than 2,500 providers, and was vice president of cardiovascular services for Piedmont Hospital. Tanzella holds a bachelor’s degree of science in healthcare administration and a Master of Health Administration, both from Florida Atlan- tic University. UniversityMedical Center Management Corp. Names Board Officers, NewMembers University Medical Center Management Cor- poration, the governing board of University Med- ical Center New Orleans, named its officers for its 2020-21 term and welcomed three new board members. Jaimmé A. Collins will serve as chair- person and Brandy M. Johnson, DNP, Leon J. “Trey” Reymond, and Stephen Sontheimer join the board as new members. Johnson will serve as secretary-treasurer.
