Spenser LeBoeuf, Thibodaux Regional Registered Dietitian, Achieves Board Certification as Specialist in Oncology Nutrition Thibodaux Regional Health System announced that registered dietitian, Spenser Ford LeBoeuf, RDN, LDN, has achieved board certification as a specialist in oncology nutrition (CSO). LeBoeuf is one of just nine board-certified oncology dieti- tians in the state of Louisiana. LeBoeuf provides dietary guidance to support a patient’s cancer care, as well as combat the symp- toms of cancer and side effects of treatment. Recently, she completed 2,000 hours of practice experience and passed a rigorous national exam by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to become board certified. This certification rec- ognizes dietitians for their unique expertise and skills in the oncology area by their professional peers, the public, and medical and allied health professionals. Children’s Hospital of New Orleans Appoints Mark Kline, MD, as Physician-in-Chief, CAO for LCMCHealth Pediatric Market In July, Children’s Hospital New Orleans will welcome Mark Kline, MD, an internationally rec- ognized leader in child health, as the hospital’s physician-in-chief. In this role, Kline will partner with Raymond Watts, MD, professor and head of the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health New Orleans, and Samir El-Dahr, MD, chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine, to advance academic medi- cine, training, and teaching at Children’s Hospital. In his role, Kline will oversee Children’s Hospi- tal’s pediatric academic medical programs. With a strong vision for pediatrics, he will also help expand academic programs at both LSU Health New Orleans and Tulane University School of Medicine, building alignment in the areas of education, research, and medicine. In addition to Kline’s primary responsibility as an executive leader for Children’s Hospital, he will hold faculty positions at both LSU and Tulane, working directly with LSU’s Dean Steve Nelson and Tulane’s Dean Lee Hamm to develop innovative, cohesive strat- egies to improve the future health and wellbeing of Louisiana’s children. A pediatric infectious disease specialist by training, Kline founded an international pediat- ric HIV/AIDS program, Baylor International Pedi- atric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI), a program that builds healthcare infrastructure, trains health profession- als, and provides medical care and treatment to children and families across sub-Saharan Africa and in Romania. BIPAI currently provides HIV/AIDS care and treatment to more than 350,000 of the world’s poorest and least fortunate children and families, more than any other organization world- wide. This pioneering work led to Kline’s nomi- nation for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019. Addi- tionally, Kline has been the recipient of more than $150 million in research and training grants from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most recently, Kline served in the roles of physi- cian-in-chief at Texas Children’s Hospital and chair of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, from 2009-2020. Richard P. Abben, MD, Honored with Terrebonne General Golden Stethoscope Award Terrebonne General Health System recog- nized Richard Abben, MD, as the recipient of the Golden Stethoscope Award. The award publicly recognizes a Terrebonne General physician for his or her exceptional level of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork in car- ing for patients and families, as well as interact- ing with hospital staff members and other physi- cians. Nominations can be made by physicians, employees, patients, and volunteers and recog- nizes two physicians a year. “Dr. Richard Abben is an integral part of the Cardiology program that we provide and it is an honor to present him with the Golden Stetho- scope Award,” said Phyllis Peoples, Terrebonne General Health System, president and CEO. “The passion he has for his practice and patients make him a very well-respected member of the Terre- bonne General family.” Abben had been a member of the Terrebonne General active medical staff for 33 years and served as chief of staff from 2011-2012, having pre- viously served as vice chief of staff. He has broad experience in both interventional cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology and is a lecturer, researcher, and published author in both areas.
