Atchinson. “We look forward to working with him to advance the mission of the organization and its members.” Dr. Seoane Named Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at LSU Leonardo Seoane, MD, FACP, has been named associate vice chancellor of academic affairs at LSUHealth Shreveport. Seoane will work with the LSUHS chancellor, provost, and deans of each professional school, and the Office of Graduate Medical Education to support student and res- idency training. “The role of the associate vice chancellor of academic affairs is a valuable resource to our health sciences center that enhances our focus on academic excellence in each of our profes- sional schools and graduate medical educa- tion. Dr. Seoane brings an exemplary skill set, attitude and experiences to this position having been actively involved in academic teaching and leadership along with dedicated patient care for over twenty years,”said Dr. G. E. Ghali, chancellor of LSU Health Shreveport. Seoane will continue in his role as senior vice president and chief academic officer of Ochsner Health System in addition to his new role. Seo- ane will work to align the academic missions of Ochsner and LSU Health Shreveport to train the next generation of physicians and grow medical research to improve the care of the patients in our communities. Seoane earned a Doctor of Medicine from the LSU School of Medicine in NewOrleans and went on to complete an internship at the University of Alabama BirminghamMedical Center and a res- idency in internal medicine at LSU Health New Orleans. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine through a combined LSUHNO and Ochsner Medical Center program, and completed a research and clinical fellowship in lung transplant at Ochsner Medical Center. LakeviewRegional Physician GroupWelcomes Orthopedic Physician Assistant LakeviewRegional Physician Group announced the addition of Tiffanie Boyce, orthopedic physi- cian assistant. Boyce joins orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lance Wehrly in practice at the Judge Tan- ner Blvd. clinic, which is currently seeing new patients. Boyce treats a wide range of orthopedic con- ditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, lig- ament injuries, cartilage injuries, cysts, broken bones, joint dislocations, and osteoporosis. Pro- cedures performed in the office include joint aspi- rations and injections, casting, splinting, bracing, wound care, and suture and staple removal. She also evaluates surgical and nonsurgical treatment options and treats chronic pain and acute injuries of many joints including shoulders, elbows, wrist, hands, hips, knees, ankles, and feet. Boyce received an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and she obtained a physician assistant license from Mississippi College. Xavier Graduate Awarded Inaugural Scholarship fromOchsner Recent Xavier University of Louisiana gradu- ate Sarah Bertrand was awarded the inaugural Ochsner Health SystemMedical School Scholar- ship for LSUHealth Shreveport – School of Med- icine.The scholarship award will cover cost of tui- tion and fees for Bertrand to attend the four-year medical school program at LSU Health Shreve- port – School of Medicine starting this fall. Bertrand, 21, graduatedmagna cum laude this spring from Xavier with a degree in biology, a minor in chemistry, and honors in biology, Eng- lish, and chemistry. While at Xavier, Bertrand was an activemember of the school’s chapter of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Delta Sigma Theta, a service-based organization. Originally from Marrero, La., Bertrand grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated fromSt.Joseph’sAcademy before moving to New Orleans to study at Xavier – the same school where her mother earned her pharmacy degree. “Medicine is a profession where you can really help someone and make a positive change in their lives. I’ve seen this first hand frommymom working in the medical field. She’s really inspired me to follow this path,” said Bertrand.“There’s a strong need for high quality healthcare here in Louisiana. I was raised here, and I’d like to give back by serving this community.” On average, it takes seven to 15 years for a phy- sician to completemedical training.According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, the demand for physicians is projected to grow faster than the current supply and it anticipated that the United States will see a shortage of up to nearly 122,000 physicians by 2032. The phy- sician shortage is most pronounced in Southern states like Louisiana. “Since its founding, Ochsner Health System has been committed to training the next gener- ation of healthcare providers. Given the physi- cian shortages faced by our country, continuing to invest in the future of healthcare education is critically important,” said Leonardo Seoane, MD, chief academic officer, Ochsner Health System. “This scholarship creates a clear pathway for stu- dents to continue their medical education here in Louisiana. Furthermore, it builds upon exist- ing partnerships with Xavier University and LSU Health Shreveport – School of Medicine. By work- ing together, we are sending a clear message that we believe and choose to invest in the future of medicine in Louisiana – today and for years to come,” To qualify for consideration for this scholarship, students were required to be Louisiana resident, Xavier students, and already been accepted into the LSU Health Shreveport – School of Medi- cine.To apply for the scholarship,Xavier students submitted an application detailing academic Leonardo Seoane, MD, FACP
