To change the eating culture of New Orleans – just a little – is one heck of an accomplishment.” Jenny Barnett-Sarpalius joins LCMCHealth as Chief Financial Officer Jenny Barnett-Sarpalius has been appointed chief financial officer for LCMC Health. The certified public accountant joins LCMC Health with significant experience in large, multi- facility healthcare systems and large, complex aca- demic medical centers. Some of her career high- lights include leading all finance related activities in connection with the merger and consolidation of one of the largest non-profit healthcare sys- tems in the country (merger of Catholic Health teaching mothers how to initiate and maintain lactation and referrals to local breastfeeding sup- port groups. “We are proud of the work our staff and pro- viders have done to implement this program and provide our mothers the tools they need to make informed decisions about what is best for themselves and their babies,” said Jennifer Schmidt, Lakeview Regional’s chief nursing offi- cer. “By embracing this initiative, we are creating a caring and compassionate environment where mothers who choose to breastfeed are given the best chances for success.” Every mother should be educated on the importance of breastfeeding and respected to make her own decision regard- ing what is best for her and her baby. All moth- ers are educated on best practices related to the feeding method of her choice. There are more than 20,000 designated Baby- Friendly hospitals and birth centers worldwide. Currently, there are 578 active Baby-Friendly hos- pitals and birth centers in the United States. The Ochsner Eat Fit Releases Cookbook Ochsner Eat Fit and River Road Press together announced the release of The Eat Fit Cookbook. Author Molly Kimball, registered dietitian and nutrition journalist, collaborated with award-win- ning chefs and restaurateurs to create crowd- pleasing, good-for-you recipes to can make at home. The Eat Fit Cookbook features more than 125 recipes, along with wellness tips and stories from chefs and foodies. Preorders for the book can be made at www.eatfitcookbook.com. Ochsner Eat Fit was founded in 2013 to make nourishing, balanced meals more readily avail- able in New Orleans restaurants. Kimball, nutrition manager for Ochsner Fitness Center, had already worked with the chefs at Commander’s Palace to incorporate healthier menu options there, and believed that other local restaurants would be interested, too. She worked with leaders at Och- sner Health System to create Ochsner Eat Fit, a nonprofit that would delight diners and improve health throughout the community. “At Ochsner, we believe in empowering the community to make well-informed decisions about their health. Our goal is to partner with patients though out their entire wellness journey, Hospital for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is now open. The state-of-the-art facility is designed for orthopedic and sports medicine surgery and will offer advanced anesthesia and pain tech- niques, resulting in less pain and a quicker recov- ery. Located at 1221 S. Clearview Pkwy., Och- sner Hospital for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine underwent extensive renovations, which began in October of 2017. More than 3,500 patients will be cared for annually at the hospital. Dr. George Chimento, system chairman of the Ochsner Orthopedic Surgery Department added, “We’ve designed this space with our patients in mind, utilizing the latest technology and equip- ment to get people back to living their best lives quickly.” The new facility is connected to the entire Och- sner Health System network of facilities and physicians through Epic – Ochsner’s integrated electronic health record system, which enables Ochsner physicians to securely share patient information. Patients can also use personalized MyOchsner accounts to access tests results and schedule appointments online through personal- ized MyOchsner accounts. LakeviewRegional Earns ‘Baby-Friendly’ Designation Lakeview Regional Medical Center, a cam- pus of Tulane Medical Center, has earned inter- national recognition as a designated “Baby- Friendly” birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA. This award recognizes birth facilities that offer breast- feeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. Baby-Friendly USA is the U.S. authority for the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Ini- tiative (“BFHI”), a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations International Emergency Children’s Fund . The initiative encourages and recognizes hos- pitals and birthing centers that offer an opti- mal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. In order to receive Baby-Friendly designation, hospitals must incorporate the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, which include prenatal education about optimal infant feed- ing, keeping mothers and babies together, breast- feeding within one hour, feeding on demand, Jenny Barnett-Sarpalius
