The honor is designated based on data gathered through its annual hospital survey, which compares hospital performance on national patient safety, quality, efficiency, and management standards. St. Charles Parish Hospital, a 59-bed facility created as a service district hospital in 1959, was the only hospital in Louisiana and one of only 35 in the country to receive this prestigious honor. * Later this month, the Office of Behavioral Health will release its Opioid Response Plan, which will serve as a roadmap to decreasing the effects of the opioid epidemic. 1000thHeart Transplant Completed at Ochsner Health System Nearly 50 years after performing the first heart transplant in the Gulf South, Ochsner Health System has successfully completed its 1,000th heart transplant. With the completion of the 1,000th heart transplant, Ochsner joins the ranks of 13 other prestigious health care systems across the United States to have reached this mile- stone – Cleveland Clinic, Duke University, Vander- bilt University Medical Center, and University of Pennsylvania, to name a few. “Reaching this milestone is a testament to the legacy of the late Dr. John L. Ochsner, Sr. who pio- neered heart valve and coronary bypass surgery. St. Charles Parish Hospital Commemorates 5-Year Anniversary of Ochsner Health SystemPartnership This September marks the fifth anniversary of the partnership between St. Charles Parish Hos- pital and Ochsner Health System, which estab- lished the sharing of best medical practices and the implementation of advanced technology, resulting in improved quality, expanded access to care, and reduction in medical costs. “Over the past five years, St. Charles Parish has benefited greatly from the hospital’s partnership with Ochsner,” said Terrell Neal, interim CEO, St. Charles Parish Hospital. “We are committed to providing exceptional care where our patients live. The progress made since 2014 has not only made our community healthier, but also provided a great place to work for our employees, with improved culture and engagement.” Access to high quality healthcare has expanded in St. Charles Parish since the beginning of the partnership, including the opening of the Planta- tion View Medical Offices – a 52,000-square-foot medical office building located at 13100 River Road.  Care has also been improved through new tech- nology. St. Charles Parish Hospital upgraded its electronic medical records to industry-leading Epic software, which ensures coordinated patient care across the Ochsner Health System. Through this system, patients are empowered to access personal health information and connect with Baltimore, Maryland, where he was educated as a fellow in spinal cord injury medicine. He earned a medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands on Grand Cayman. He then completed an internship in general surgery through Exempla St. Joseph’s in Denver, Col., and a residency through Wayne State University, located in Detroit Medical Center at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan. North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital is the only facility of its kind in a seven-parish area accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabili- tation Facilities (CARF). It is also home to one of only five CARF-accredited stroke specialty pro- grams in Louisiana. Thibodaux Regional Welcomes Dr. Scott Hebert, Hematology and Oncology Thibodaux Regional Medical Center announced the addition of Scott Hebert, MD, hematology and medical oncology, to the active medical staff. He has joined Thibodaux Regional Oncol- ogy Clinic located in Thibodaux Regional’s Can- cer Center. A native of Houma, Hebert received a medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed an inter- nal medicine residency and internship program as well as a hematology and oncology fellowship program at Louisiana State University Health Sci- ences Center in New Orleans.
