The 2018 rankings were released by Nursing Schools Almanac. According to Nursing Schools Almanac, its research team collected data on more than 3,200 nursing schools and campuses throughout the United States and evaluated each school on three dimensions: -The institution’s academic prestige and per- ceived value; -The breadth and depth of nursing programs offered; -Student success, particularly on the NCLEX national licensure exam. They combined these assessments into an over- all score and ranked the schools accordingly. “This national ranking of our nursing school demonstrates our journey of excellence in nurs- ing education while meeting the nursing work- force demands,” noted Demetrius Porche, DNS, PhD, FACHE, FAANP, FAAN, LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing dean and professor. “It was achieved through the dedication of our nursing students, faculty, staff, and alumni to our mission.” LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing is the only nursing school in Louisiana within an aca- demic health sciences center, taught by some of the same faculty who teach medical, dental, allied health, graduate studies, and public health stu- dents. The interprofessional education program further differentiates the school. It is also the only nursing school in Louisiana that offers four dis- tinct academic degree programs: Bachelor of Sci- ence in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Doctor of Nurs- ing Science. LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing is actively developing nursing science, translating evidence and research into practice, and pro- ducing a nursing workforce to meet the dynamic healthcare environment needs. It engages in aca- demic-practice partnerships with its clinical affil- iates to ensure an adequate nursing workforce and to bridge the chasm between nursing edu- cation and nursing practice. LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing has also been designated as a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing. The vision of LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing is to achieve national eminence as a leader of excellence in nursing education, research, practice, service, and community outreach.    American Lung Association Busts Top 4 Myths about Radon Radon is a naturally occurring gas that hides invisibly in homes yet is the nation’s second-lead- ing cause of lung cancer. In January, during Radon Action Month, American Lung Association raised awareness about radon and addressed common myths around this deadly gas. “Hidden in far too many homes is the second- leading cause of lung cancer, radon. Lung can- cer remains the nation’s leading cause of cancer deaths, so people need to be aware of and take action on radon,” said American Lung Associ- ation Director of Advocacy, Ashley Lyerly. “The good news is that testing for and reducing the high radon levels is straightforward and effective.
