Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Hosts Yoga Event to Benefit Cancer Patients

Bring your yoga mats, appetite, and zen as Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center hosts the second annual Geaux Yoga event on March 21 at Cate Square Park in Hammond from 9 – 11 a.m.

The event will include a yoga class led by Downtown Yoga, food bites by Cate St. Seafood Station, fruit from Berry Town Produce, smoothies from Smoothie King, and juice from The Big Squeezy. The event will offer something for all ages, including kids’ activities with Louisiana Children's Discovery Center, an information station with tips on healthy eating, chair massages from Geaux Chiro, and a sun safety station with sunscreen. Additionally, Southeastern University cheerleaders and Roomie, the school’s mascot, will be visiting with attendees and taking pictures following the yoga class. Free breast and skin cancer screenings will be provided by the Cancer Center, and all proceeds benefit patients and support services in Hammond.

Erica Kelt, director of development for the Cancer Center, is passionate about the impact Geaux Yoga has on the community.

“With this event, we’re able to introduce people to yoga while raising funds to directly support local cancer patients and their families,” says Kelt.

Tickets for Geaux Yoga are $25 in advance and $35 day of; a limited number of VIP spots are $100. Student tickets are available for $20 to anyone with a valid student ID.
