VA Hosting Open House for Volunteers

For those interested in volunteering, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, in the auditorium of the new administrative building at 2400 Canal Street. SLVHCS is looking to expand its volunteer program to about 700-800 volunteers.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the public to give back to those who have given so much for our country,” explained SLVHCS Director Fernando Rivera. “Our volunteers provide integral support throughout the system to help create an excellent healthcare experience for all Veterans using our medical services.”

The open house will feature a wide range of volunteer opportunities, from on-site ambassadors, to recreational therapy, community living center, and hospice care. In total, there are more than 17 major volunteer categories.

Volunteers can serve on a regular schedule or on special occasions throughout the year.

More information for volunteers is available at www.volunteer.va.gov/apps/volunteernow.

Interested volunteers who are unable to attend the open house can request a volunteer registration packet or ask for more information by calling the volunteer office at 504-565-4857 or email vhanolvoluntaryservice@va.gov.

Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System will begin seeing outpatients at clinics in the new medical center later this year. Future events at the new Veterans medical center include the SLVHCS annual Stand Down for Homeless Veterans on Oct. 22 and the ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for Nov. 18.
