About one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, and New Orleans has one of the highest breast cancer death rates in the state, according to the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program. The Cancer Center at University Medical Center (UMC) New Orleans is helping to shed light on this disease by offering a series of bi-monthly lunch lectures featuring experts in breast health.
The next lunch lecture, Everything You Need to Know About Mammograms and Screening, will be held on Wednesday, December 7, from 12 – 1 p.m. in the UMC New Orleans Conference Center, Room G. Mignonne B. Morrell, MD, assistant clinical professor of radiology and academic director of breast imaging for LSU Health New Orleans and a radiologist at UMC, will discuss current mammography screening techniques (2D and 3D), variations in screening guidelines and breast density. Lunch will be provided and a Q&A session will follow. Parking is available in the garage at 2001 Tulane Avenue.

The Lunch Lecture Series on Breast Health, launched earlier this year, provides a wide variety of educational topics across many aspects of breast health and the latest treatment options for breast cancer throughout the year. The lectures are free and open to the community, patients, hospital staff and faculty and will be followed by a brief Q&A session.
