The LSU Health New Orleans Student Interest Group for Music and the Arts (SIGMA) will hold a “Battle of the Bands” on March 11 from 7-11 p.m. at Republic NOLA, 828 South Peters Street in the Warehouse District. Eight LSU Health New Orleans medical student bands will vie for bragging rights, all for a great cause.
A suggested donation of $10 at the door will support one of LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine’s most important outreach programs. LSU Health New Orleans Camp Tiger is a free, week-long summer day camp for children with special needs. It is planned, organized, staffed, and funded by the efforts of students at the LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine. Its mission is to give disadvantaged and challenged children an enjoyable summer camp experience. For the campers, this may be their only chance during the summer to socialize with other children without being singled out for their disabilities. LSU Health New Orleans Camp Tiger lets each camper be “just one of the kids” and provides them with freedom to play, socialize, and express themselves as healthy, vibrant children.
The lineup of bands (named with medical puns) includes Mylohyoid Club, Valves Off Houston, Jerry C & the Malignancy, Calvin Klinefelter Collection, Rad Cow Disease, Kings of Ganglion, Epstein Band Virus and Flu Fighters
